1st book of the year - 360 deg leader -

yay~ i completed my first book of the year! 360 deg leader by John Maxwell. Its quite a simple, refreshing read. Some of the stuff actually seems common sense, but people dun practise it, whether its their nature not to or they are simply reluctant to do it. Most of the topics can be very much related to my workplace and i believe, in all other working place too and i was actually quite surprised at how relevant it is to me and how it made me re-think about my role in my workplace. heh. Some of the highlights from the book...

["The 57 Rules to Deliver the Good."
Rule 1: Deliver the Goods
Rule 2: The Other 55 Don't Matter]

- Every boss needs someone to be the Go-To player. In times of need and emergency, the person that people (your boss) go to are the ones that always deliver the goods without fail in times of "peace".

[Banish the future. Live only for the hour and its allotted work. Think not of the amount to be accomplished, the difficulties to be overcome, or the end to be attained, but set earnestly at the little task at your elbow, letting that be sufficient for the day; for surely our plain duty is, as Carlyle says, "Not to see what lies dimly at a distance, but to do what lies clearly at hand."]

- sometimes we fall into the trap of dreaming of where we want to be and grunting of how people, things and environment are stopping us from getting to where we want to be...and then we forget that to get to where we want to be, we have to start from where we are. We need to climb to the top of our game first before we are ready to play at the next level.
