Foreign Talents

Newpaper article today (7th May 2008): "Future Job Threat or Brillant Asset?"
[I have to do this to add a line between my paragraphs.]
- Given the influx of "foreign talent" into Singapore, how do you see the existence of these FTs affecting you? My friend and I were on the subject just a few days ago and he was dining at NTU canteen and the stall uncle asked him if he was from China. "NO!" The uncle said its harder to tell the PRCs apart from the locals now given that the PRCs are so "rampant" now in NTU. I guess its the same for NUS and other places... well...my friend was literally complaining about the fact that the PRCs are vying for the same places as him and other graduates alike...the anti-FTs sentiment is actually quite prevalent now more so than few years back before i entered UNI, especially those in the engineering and computing courses...but i was telling him if you are good, why do you have to worry about competition... but singaporeans are too pampered and spoilt to realise that you have to fight for what you want, the outcome of being hand-fed by the government...
[i have to do this to add a line between my paragraphs. AGAIN]
but i do not blame the government. im still pro-PAP. =) at least for now, for the fact that I may not be what I am if not for what our people before us who did what they did... sometimes i really wonder, what those anti-government people (only referring to those who only complain without reason...) would be if Singapore didnt become the way it is and was like other under-developed countries around us...they wouldnt be educated in the first place, living from hand to mouth.
[Someone tell me what i can do. im a HTML idiot]
oh well anyway i was saying...Singaporeans have a lot more to learn from the PRCs or all other international students coming to study in Singapore. we still have a long way to go. its not easy to come here all alone to study and work to support yourself and then at the same time, face some awkward criticisms from ignorant people who wants them to go back to where they are... come on, if you are not up to it, dun blame others to make urself feel good... its not as if you will do better without them around. heh.
[...]
Anyway, after a few weeks of self-thinking, survery and knocking around, i finally have a glimpse of what i wanna do and how i should start working towards it from now till 5-8 years time. its not gonna be easy and so, to learn from the PRCs, i just have to slog and put in 150% effort in order to achieve my goals. I'm feeling alot more LESS-burdened and more focused on what i wanna do...for HONOUR AND GLORY! =)

Heh nic, i totally agree with the zhen1 jin1 bu2 pa4 huo3 part regarding the competition induced by the influx of foreigners. haha.. i mean, this is a sub-package of globalisation. the threat is real, no matter where you are in the world. survival of the fittest always. =)
