Tomorrow Never Comes
~~~If I knew it would be the last time that I'd see you fall asleep,
I would tuck you in more tightly, and pray the Lord your soul to keep.
If I knew it would be the last time that I'd see you walk out the door, I would give you a hug and kiss, and call you back for just one more.
~
If I knew it would be the last time I'd hear your voice lifted up in praise,
I would tape each word and action, and play them back throughout my days.
If I knew it would be the last time, I would spare an extra minute or two,
To stop and say "I love you," instead of assuming you know I do.
~
So just in case tomorrow never comes, and today is all I get,
I'd like to say how much I love you, and I hope we never will forget.
Tomorrow is not promised to anyone, young or old alike,
And today may be the last chance you get to hold your loved one tight.
~
So if you're waiting for tomorrow, why not do it today?
For if tomorrow never comes, you'll surely regret the day
That you didn't take that extra time for a smile, a hug, or a kiss,
And you were too busy to grant someone, what turned out to be their one last wish.
~
So hold your loved ones close today, and whisper in their ear,
That you love them very much, and you'll always hold them dear.
Take time to say "I'm sorry," "Please forgive me," "thank you" or "it's okay."
And if tomorrow never comes, you'll have no regrets about today.
Got this from the book "an hour to live an hour to love" by Richard Carlson and Kristine Carlson. It's a really short read, but it really reminds one what we are really pursuing in life. If you have one hour to call someone, who would it be and what would you say? If you have one hour to do something, what would you do? and if you don't know when that hour will come, why are you not doing it now, for the next hour may be your last hour...
Once in a while you come across things like that and you tell yourself.."i shall be nice to my loved ones..." and over time, you forget about what you wanted and again, you started chasing things that you never would have wanted when you look back...would you want to go out and spend all your money shopping in your last hour? If you do, i guess it's really kinda sad...and there are always millions of things your heart wants, but the best things in life aren't things...well having "things" do sweeten and enhance your life to a certain extent but only to a certain extent you would trade your time with but the BEST things definitely ain't things. And more often than not, in the pursuit of excellence and "fast ascension" in the corporate ladder, most of us find it hard to say NO to our work demands, which results in long hours, heavy workloads, more stress which translates to more frustration brought home and in turn, served to blind us from what you really are looking for.
I haven't reach that stage yet, but I guess I would started facing such dilemma in a couple of years and I hope I haven't sunk in too deep then to realise how many years I have wasted pursuing something and losing something even more important in return.
